Center for Posterity Interest Organization (COPIO), a Techiman based non-governmental organization in the Bono East region advocating for women empowerment and helping to eradicate poverty and oppression against females and vulnerable in the society, has expressed discomfort with the challenges and long queues associated with the ongoing nationwide SIM Card registration exercise in the midst of COVID-19 describing the situation as unacceptable.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr Mustapha Maison Yeboah, Chief Executive Officer of COPIO commended the Government, Ministry of Communications and Digitalization and the National Identification Authority for such an important initiative.
But according to him, challenges associated with the exercise due to its cumbersome nature have already killed the interest of most Ghanaians, particularly those living in remote and deprived communities.
Mr Mustapha M. Yeboah further called on Government to liaise with the National Identification Authority and Telecommunication Companies to devise realistic strategies to reduce the cumbersome nature of the procedures and burden on SIM card users in order not to deprive the majority of Ghanaians of their contact numbers or contacts or accessibility to telephony.
The government has issued an ultimatum of March 2022 for all bearers of sin cards to re-register with the Ghana card or risk losing ownership of the SIM card.
