President Akufo-Addo and Communications and Digitalisation minister, Ursula Owusu have no option than to extend the deadline of sim cards registration expected to end today, Sunday” NDC’s Commrade Prince Henry has stated.
The Ministry had given a deadline of Sunday, 31st July, 2022 for customers of the various telecommunications networks to register their sim cards or lose them permanently.
Today’s deadline is the 2nd of its kind after a first one was not met hence its extension to July 31.
Few hours to the close of Sunday, many people are still in cue awaiting to have their sim cards registered while others are yet to secure a Ghana card, the only identity for registration.
Meanwhile, Eastern Regional Communication team member of the National Democratic Congress, Commrade Prince Henry has emphasised it is not possible for the ministry to go ahead with the implementation of the deadline issued.
He argued many Ghanaians are even yet to get their Ghana cards after years and months of registration and therefore denying them access to register their sim cards as authorised by the ministry.
He queried rhetorically why the ministry is forcing Ghanaians to register their sim cards with only the Ghana card, knowing well the agreement between the telecos and their customers.
Commrade Prince Henry was surprised why the Voters ID card was not included in the requirement as it seem to be the common identification for many Ghanaians.
He, therefore, assured Ghanaians who are yet to receive their Ghana cards for registration sim cards not to panic as Government cannot go by the deadline given.
