As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares to hold Parliamentary and Presidential Primaries on April 25, 2020, six people have picked nomination forms for the Lower West Akyem seat in the Eastern Region.
The six are; Incumbent Member of Parliament, Eyiah Kyei Baffour, former MP who served from 2008 to 2016, Gifty Klenam, Former District Chief Executive for the area who is currently serving as Deputy Director in charge of operations at STC, Kwabena Sintim Aboagye, the CEO of Ghana Tourism Development Authority, Kwadwo Odame Antwi, an official of the National Communications Authority, Charles Acheampong and a businessman, Kwabena Asamoah.
The Lower West Akyem seat is being occupied by the NPP since the year 2000.
In 2015 NPP primaries, five people contested the seat, but Eyiah Kyei Baffour was the delegates choice and he won the Parliamentary seat in 2016 with 27,056 votes, representing 59.87%, while NDC’s candidate, Shirley NaaNa Osei Ampem also obtained 18,011 39.86%.
Constituency Executives are divided now over Gifty Klenam, Kwabena Sintim Aboagye, and Eyiah Kyei Baffour.
Some of the Constituency Executives were supported by these three candidates during the Constituency election and have been kind and helpful to the party for some years now.
