The Omanhene of Akwamu Traditional Area, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III has called on his subjects to adhere to all the preventive protocols against Coronavirus pandemic to help stop the spread.
A statement issued Saturday, April 11, 2020, on his Birthday; Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III said social distancing is the only way to win the fight against the pandemic.
“These are indeed unprecedented times, but I encourage everyone to contribute to the adherence to the Social Distancing Education! That is the only way we as a people can fight this dangerous Pandemic”.
Ghana has recorded a total of 378 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of April 9, 2020, with six deaths. Out of the number of confirmed cases, Eastern Region has recorded 28 among some railway construction workers working on the Tema-Akosombo-Mpakadan railway project.
According to Odeneho Kwarfo Akoto II, “as the number of coronavirus cases across the world continues to grow, we as a community must necessarily and proactively organize ourselves to supplement efforts by Government aimed at supporting those vulnerable people who will feel its effects the hardest should the virus strike”.
The Paramount Chief has through its major stakeholders established Akwamuman COVID-19 Response Team to mobilize resources to help fight the pandemic. Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III is satisfied that the team is “demonstrating a remarkable commitment to this all-important cause”.
Meanwhile, the Akwamu Traditional Council has imposed a ban on all gatherings including the celebration of the Akwasidae festival. Also, funerals, weddings, among others have been suspended.
