The government has affirmed its commitment to the quality of education in the country by providing the needed infrastructure development.
President Akufo-Addo made this known at Somanya during the commissioning of the first phase of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD).
The President elaborated on the construction of the University will help deal with many environmental challenges facing the country thus, illegal mining, logging, and among others.
He emphasized the first phase cost a little over 45 million euros while the second phase is also expected to cost over 49 million euros.
The second phase which will span between 13 months will comprise of the library, lecture halls, accommodation facilities, football field, basketball court, and many others.
President Akufo-Addo however, charged the University interim council to supervise the work to ensure it is completed on time for the intended purpose.
Meanwhile, the Education Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh on his part, indicated that the government will continue to provide the necessary logistics and policies as far as tertiary education is concerned.
Initial sod cutting for the construction of the University was done by former President John Dramani Mahama a few days after losing the 2016 general election.
However, President Akufo-Addo on assumption into office in 2017 pledged to complete the project to serve the intended purpose.
