President Akufo-Addo has emphasized that the introduction of planting for food and jobs program will still be a government priority in the coming years.
He indicated that, agriculture was not in a good state when the NPP came into power as the growing rate at that time was 2.9 percent, but has now increased to6.4 percent as at last year.
“Introducing planting for food and jobs is set about to make our agriculture flourish in a professional way”
“We invested in Agriculture Extension Officers and due to their hard work, the result has been impressive and rewarding” the President insisted.
President Akufo-Addo added “the program has also increased production in some foodstuffs such as maize, rice, groundnut, soya beans, cowpea, cassava, plantain, and many others.
“Furthermore, Ghana as a nation is no more importing maize and also, we are reducing our imports on rice, thereby, reducing imports into the country.
The President stressed about 2,700 Agriculture Extensive Officers to give practical experts on the farms with the support of Canada, as 300 vehicles and 3,000 motor bicycles have been distributed across the country to enhance the easy movement of officers.
President Akufo-Addo made this known as part of this year’s State of the Nation Address in Ghana’s Parliament on Thursday, 20th February 2020.
