SOS Children’s Villages Ghana has brought to an end its family strengthening (FS) project in Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern region.
SOS Children’s Villages Ghana focused to build a capacity for families by providing support and resources, to empower families and communities to be self-resilient to care for children.
The SOS Children’s Villages has found great opportunities in every challenge faced to innovate and grow as a team through a journey of empowering lives, families and communities.
Madam Josephine Afrawuah, the Programs Director for SOS Children’s Villages Ghana, indicated that they have established 15 villages savings and loan associations in Kukurantumi, New Tafo and Old Tafo communities within five years in Tafo jurisdiction.
Madam Afrawuah disclosed that 250 teachers were impacted through in-service training and 7,352 pupils are directly in schools for their academic journey.
Speaking at the five years exit durbar, she said that the basic income earning capacity of 170 young people have been enhanced through business startup support service.
‘‘SOS Children’s Villages has provided access to 1,323 children to education, good nutrition and health, 10,579 have access to decent WASH facilities including borehole water systems,’’ Madam Afrawuah added.
She explained that 423 caregivers have received economic empowerment to earn income to provide basic survival needs of 1,323 children adding that the capacity of 3 community-based organizations’ have been built to provide support services for vulnerable families and children.
Madam Afrawuah stated: “from very commencement of this project, our dream was clear, and our commitment was resolute. I had a privilege of witnessing the transformative impact we have dad on children, families, young people and communities at large throughout this wonderful journey.’’
She continued that each setback faced was a treasured lesson learnt and very success was a testament to the collective strength of their collaboration with the existing structures.
“Today, as we look back on the path we have traveled, I am filled with gratitude for the remarkable team that made this project possible. Our dedicated staff, partners, and community members have been the pillars of this endeavor. Their solid commitment and hard work have laid the foundation for the lasting change,’’ Madam Afrawuah eulogized.
‘‘As we close this chapter, let us carry forward the lessons learned, the bonds forged, and the spirit of collaboration that has defined our journey. The impact of the FS project extends far beyond its duration; it resonates in the lives that have been touched and the communities that have been strengthened,’’ she said.
Madam Afrawuah emphasized that the achievements are not mere tales of people, but it represents stories of hope and upliftment to their target.
Madam Afrawuah averred that about 1,486 children have benefited from activities of 10 child right clubs formed in community schools to gain self-awareness of their rights and demand those rights in society for comprehensive development.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Abuakwa North Municipality, Hon Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga on his part added that with collaborative efforts and support from the assembly, SOS achieved a very significant milestone and positively impacted the lives of people in the municipality.
He cited that the SOS achievements and successes chalked by the FS project during the five years stay in the municipality cannot be brushed-off adding that more 395 have benefited directly from grants to expand their business.
Hon Alhaji Bodinga outlined that 1,000 children have benefited from their children’s welfare initiative where educational materials were distributed to pupils.
He affirmed that 169 youths have benefited from their TVET youth empowerment.
SOS Children’s Villages Ghana have served Abuakwa North municipality with a family strengthening project.
