Dr. George Domfe, a Development Economist at the University of Ghana, has advised politicians to be truthful when dealing with issues of the economy.
According to him, COVID-19 caused Ghana’s economy to suffer in 2020, with growth stalling at 0.5 percent—the lowest level since 1993 while the war between Russia and Ukraine in 2022 had a further impact on the economy, slowing growth to 3%.
Dr. Domfe points out that since then, the economy has bounced back, with growth hitting 6.9%.
He made this assertion during an interview with Bryt fm on 5th November, 2024 at the Koforidua Technical University.
Dr. Domfe was responding to a query regarding currency rate stability posed by former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC.
He said the devaluation of the cedi, which has been occurring since 1956, is as a result of Ghana’s over reliance on imports.
“I’m urging everyone to be honest when it comes politics and leaders should speak the truth and avoid misinformation because everyone will die and when you go for judgment don’t blame politics” he stated.
