Hon. Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, the second deputy majority chief whip for the New Patriotic Party, NPP has stated that, the speaker of Parliament has the the right over both the majority and minority concerning where they should sit in the House.
“The clerk and IT department are responsible for arranging seats in Parliament, but since both the majority and minority want to take the seat of the Majority, I think Speaker has the right to give an order to settle the issue amicably” he stated.
In an interview on Bryt fm Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sem Biney on Thursday November 7, 2024, the Sefwi Akontombra lawmaker said the speaker of Parliament must not be quiet in terms of siting arrangement.
He indicated the NPP as a party is known for obeying rules and laws in the Parliament in terms of siting arrangement as compared to the main opposition NDC.
“We always abide the laws in Parliament, so we can’t fight the NDC in the House because of siting arrangements. Our party is a peaceful one and nothing change it. We gave the chance for NDC to sit in our seat since the NDC MPs want to create misunderstanding in the Parliament. We gave them the chance so that peace can prevail in the Parliament again. We did all this but we can’t repeat it today” he stated.
He added “It is simple to order us since they have not changed the seating arrangements so I am suprised the Speaker is saying He cannot do anything about it.
“Your wish is our command Hon Alban Kingsford, command and it will be there forever, your command is first and last in the Parliament. Nothing can change it”.
