A Spinning machine operator, Asante Samuel has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Asamankese Circuit Court for defiling a 12-year-old girl in Akyem Takyiman, near Akwatia.
Asante Samuel, 20 years pleaded guilty for defilement, contrary to section 101(2) of the criminal offences Act 1960 (Act 29) when he appeared before His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams.
Chief Inspector Susan Ayaric, the prosecutor told the court that the complainant is Georgina Sarkodie who is the mother of the victim while the accused is a spinning machine operator, all resides in Akyem Takyiman.
She said on 17/10/2021 at about 7; 30pm, the victim returned from Town when the complainant observed that the victim was finding it difficult to walk and approached the victim to ascertain what was wrong with her and the victim said she attended a wedding ceremony in their area where the accused person lured her into the back of a building and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her, hence, the pain in her abdomen.
The matter was reported to the Akyem Takyiman Police where the accused person was immediately arrested and detailed to assist the investigation.
The accused led the police to the scene of the crime in the presence of the victim and her mother where the accused pointed at the exact place he defiled the victim.
On 18/10/2021, the case docket was transferred to Akwatia police together with the accused person for further investigation.
A medical report form was issued to the complainant and was accompanied by the police, the victim was sent to GCD Hospital, Akwatia for examination. The victim was treated and the medical form was duly endorsed by the medical officer on duty.
In his investigation cautioned statement, the accused admitted the offence and after investigation, he was charged and arraigned before court for prosecution.
