In celebration of six decades of dedicated service to the nation, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has officially launched the SSNIT Mobile Service (SMS) Week, reaffirming its commitment to making social protection accessible to every Ghanaian.
This year’s SMS Week, held under the inspiring theme “A Legacy of Service,” marks a significant expansion of SSNIT’s outreach — extending operations to 59 mobile service locations nationwide in addition to its existing 53 branches. The initiative aims to take SSNIT’s services directly to communities, workplaces, and retirement centres — reducing travel burdens and enhancing convenience for contributors, pensioners, and employers.
Speaking at the launch ceremony at Koforidua Jackson Park, SSNIT’s Director-General, Mr. Kwesi Afreh Biney, described the initiative as a reflection of the Trust’s enduring mission to serve Ghanaians from “the cradle to the grave — and even beyond.”
“Instead of travelling long distances to our offices, members can now perform every SSNIT-related transaction at convenient locations near them,” Mr. Afreh Biney explained. “The Mobile Service is not just an outreach programme — it’s a declaration of who we are: a Trust that walks with you through life’s journey.”
The Director-General noted that the Mobile Service Week offers a full range of SSNIT services, including registration and enrolment, processing of contributions and pensions, compliance support, renewal of pensioner certificates, GhanaCard–SSNIT number merging, and general customer assistance.
Highlighting SSNIT’s impact, Mr. Afreh Biney revealed that by October 2025, the Trust had disbursed over GHS 5.19 billion in pensions and related benefits — supporting more than 256,000 pensioners across the country.
As part of the 60th Anniversary celebration, SSNIT has also introduced the Social Security Literacy Day, also known as the SSNIT Day of Reading. This new initiative is designed to promote social security education among young people through fun, interactive, and educational activities.
“It’s a bold step to nurture a new generation that sees contribution not as an obligation, but as empowerment,” he remarked. “We aim to instill in our youth the values of financial inclusion, long-term planning, and the importance of social protection.”
Looking ahead, Mr. Afreh Biney announced plans to launch the SSNIT Virtual Branch, which will provide 24-hour online access to SSNIT services — allowing members to transact securely from their homes and offices. Additionally, SSNIT is partnering with GCB Bank, Ecobank, and Fidelity Bank to establish SSNIT Service Desks within bank branches, further expanding accessibility nationwide.
Beyond pensions, the Director-General highlighted SSNIT’s broader contributions to Ghana’s development, citing investments in energy, education, finance, and housing, which continue to create jobs and strengthen the country’s economic foundation.
During the Mobile Service Week, residents of the Eastern Region can access SSNIT services at the following locations:
Suhum: Main Lorry Station
Akim Oda: SG-SSB Bank
Asamankese: Ghana Post Office
Nkawkaw: SSNIT Day Office
Donkorkrom
Akosombo: VRA Presby Basic School
Juapong: Kings Fuel Station
With 59 mobile service points complementing its 53 permanent branches, SSNIT continues to build a stronger, more inclusive, and accessible social security system for all Ghanaians.
