St. Mary’s Day Care Preparatory School in Koforidua has donated food items, toiletries, and medication worth GHS10,000 to the Koforidua Prisons.
The items include large sacks of beans, gari and Salt, gallons of palm oil, cake soap, washing soap, boxes of disinfectants, medication, among others.
The donation is part of the School’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility extended to less endowed institutions and vulnerable groups.
Speaking to the media after the donation, the Director of St. Mary’s Day Care Preparatory School, Miriam Ofusu Appiah said the items donated to the Koforidua Prisons would help alleviate the plight of the inmates.
“We keep hearing that the amount that government allocates for feeding and the upkeep of Prisoners is not enough so we decided to also bring our windows mite to help alleviate some of their problems. We believe it would go a long way to feed and care for them especially those who are sick.”
Management of Koforidua Prisons thanked the School for the donation.
Management reiterated that Ghc1.80p daily Feeding token spends by the government on each prisoner is woefully inadequate hence appealed for an increment to help improve the quality of food they serve the inmates.
