The President for Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) Andrew Danso Annikora has advised Ghanaians to report media houses that display unscrupulous content which may negatively influence their audience.
This advice comes after several reports have shown that some children have tried committing suicide after watching the death of Leticia Kyereh Pinamang on TV.
The final year JHS deceased student allegedly committed suicide and videos and pictures of her death have been circulating on social media and some television stations.
According to some Ghanaians, the constant publishing of her death videos has influenced some children to practice the act which has even led to the death of a nine-year-old boy.
Speaking in an interview with Abena Pokuaa Ahwenee on Dadi FM, 101.1, Andrew Danso urged parents and Ghanaians as a whole to report all media houses that display videos that could influence children to commit suicide.
He said that parents should take evidence of the media house, the time the video or picture was being displayed to report them.
“Parents should report media houses who display content that might be detrimental to their kids so that their kids do not practice certain things they see on TV”.
He also encourages parents to guide their wards in what they have to see on television and listen to on the radio.
He pressed that parents should desist their wards from watching certain programs that will affect their mental health and cause them to take negative actions.
“I will also advise parents to be mindful of what their children watch on television, they should try and guide them from seeing such things that will lead them to take actions that can cost them their lives”, he said.
