The leadership of Parliament has warned lawmakers, Parliamentary staff, and some Journalists tested positive for Covid-19 to stay away from Parliament.
Presenting the business statement The Majority leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu complained that persons tested positive in the house have defied best practices of isolating themselves for management of their condition.
“The arrangement was that anybody who unfortunately tested positive would not be openly identified but that the testing team could have the arrangement to contact them behind the curtains and have the situation managed.” The Majority Leader said on the floor of Parliament on Friday, June 12, 2020.
“Unfortunately, some people have relented, after contact is made with them they ignore the appeal from the chief, and they visit parliament and they endanger the lives of all of us. The issue is to figure if you submitted yourself, you tested negative as some of us have on two occasions I’ve tested negative.”
The Suame MP said the Covid-19 team has been making strenuous efforts to ensure that the affected persons stop attending proceedings in the house but are adamant rather mingling with colleagues putting the entire house at risk.
Ghana has recorded 498 new cases of COVID-19 taking the country’s total case count to 10,856.
The death toll still remains at 48 recoveries shooting up to 3,921, the Ghana Health Service announced in its latest update.
