Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister for Education has commended Kumasi Academy for emerging winners of the maiden national STEM Project competition dubbed STEMNNOVATION.
He has also applaud Pope Johns SHS Seminary and Worawora SHS for placing second and third respectively.
In the minister’s statement, he sent a special congratulations to the Management of the Free SHS Secretariat for initiating and organising the competition.
According to the minister, the STEM Project competition is designed to challenge and tap into the creative potential of the current Free SHS Programme beneficiaries, that is, Senior High Schools (SHS), Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) and Technical & Vocational Education & Training (TVET) Institutions.
Dr. Osei Adutwum added the competition is the first of its kind at the second cycle level of education in Ghana where competing schools were tasked to apply indigenous materials in their surroundings.
“Indeed the various innovations by all the 200 participating schools is a testament that as a country, we have creative minds who can be nurtured to become scientists and innovators of projects to address our local and global challenges” he stressed.
