The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has refuted allegations circulating in an audio recording that went viral on social media, claiming that a civilian pick-up truck was allowed into the Magazine at 5 Battalion of Infantry to convey boxes of ammunition to an undisclosed location.
In a press release dated December 25, 2024, and signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, the GAF described the allegations as false and baseless. The statement clarified that the vehicle in question was delivering a newly acquired live cow to be quarantined before being relocated to the kraal near the Magazine. The GAF emphasized that the claims in the audio were unfounded and should be treated with the disdain they deserve.
The GAF urged the public, as well as groups and individuals, to exercise caution and due diligence when sharing information related to national security. The statement warned that spreading unverified claims could lead to unnecessary tension, fear, and panic, especially during this period.
The military assured citizens that its doors remain open for inquiries and encouraged the public to contact the Department of Public Relations for accurate information. It called on all to refrain from actions or statements—whether deliberate or inadvertent—that could undermine the peace and stability of the country.
The GAF reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s stability and sovereignty and appealed to media houses to help curb the dissemination of misinformation.
The statement concluded with a reminder of the GAF’s open communication policy, urging the public to verify facts directly from the institution to avoid falling victim to falsehoods.
This release highlights the importance of verifying information from credible sources before spreading it, to maintain national peace and security.
