Former Black Stars defender Rashid Sumaila is concerned about the teams’ recent struggles and has therefore called on the leadership of Ghana football to fix the problems at hand than to apportion blames.
Ghana, who are four-time champions of the AFCON succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to the Falcon Jediane at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya on Tuesday afternoon.
The result leave the Black Stars on the verge of failing to qualify for the CAF’s biggest tournament to be held in Morocco next year. The four-time African champions last failed to qualify for the AFCON tournament in 2004.
“We’ve lost whether we like it or not, so I think it will be prudent for us to put it behind us and find solutions to our problems” he told Koforidua-based Bryt FM in an interview.
“We will continue to struggle if we keep apportioning blames than finding solutions. The leadership must sit down and assess themselves, fix the problems, give the team time and I believe things will get better”
The Black Stars will return to action in November to face Angola and Niger in their final Group F games.
Ghana now needs to secure wins against already-qualified Angola and Niger, while hoping that Sudan falters against these same opponents, to keep their chances alive for next year’s tournament in Morocco.
