Monday, April 14 – Former Member of Parliament for Sefwi Akontombra, Hon. Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, has called on the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to shift focus from propaganda and concentrate on the mandate given to them by Ghanaians. Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem, the outspoken former MP criticized recent claims by Hon. Eric Opoku, suggesting that Ghana owes tons of cereals to ECOWAS dating back to 2018.
“Governance is a continuous process,” Hon. Tetteh stated. “Once you are voted into power, whatever debt or money you come to meet becomes your responsibility. There’s no room for excuses.”
Responding directly to Hon. Opoku’s remarks, Tetteh challenged him to present documentary evidence to support the allegation. “If Eric Opoku believes what he is saying, then he should back it with facts. We need clarity — the Ministry of Agriculture is different from the Buffer Stock Company. It was Buffer Stock, not the Agric Ministry, that signed the agreement with ECOWAS.”
He explained that although Ghana was initially expected to return the cereals in 2019, the country defaulted on the agreement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tetteh’s comments come amid growing debate about Ghana’s agricultural commitments and the handling of food reserves under international agreements. His remarks underscore tensions between past and present governments as they trade accusations over debt, accountability, and governance.
