The Asamankese Circuit Court has convicted a 28-year-old student, Appiah Kwaku Michael to a fine of Gh¢1,800.00 and in default will be sentenced to five months imprisonment in hard labor for unlawful assault, contrary to section 84 of the criminal offenses Act 196(29).
Appiah Kwaku Michael was also charged to sign a bond to be in good behavior for six months and default; he will be sentenced to six months imprisonment.
The prosecuting officer, A.S.P Christian Tetteh Apronti said The complainant, in this case, is a small-scale miner and he lives with the accused in the same Town, Kobreso in West Akyem Municipality but both families are at loggerheads due to mining activities in Kobresu.
He said on 21st December 2020 at about 8:00am in Kobreso, there was a misunderstanding between the family of the accused and the complainant and later, the accused told the complainant that he will teach him a lesson whenever he meet him.
On the same day after the family verbal attacks, the complainant was on his way to the chief Palace in Kobreso, and on reaching lorry station; the accused met him and attacked him with blows and hold his neck, and shredded his shirt.
The complainant later reported the case to the police and was given a medical report to go to Hospital for treatment at which the accused was later arrested and arraigned before court for prosecution.
