Elder Anthony Anyamesem Poku, Suame Municipal Education Director, has condemned the recent trend of indecent dressing among some St. Louis students, who have been spotted hiding in cars to avoid being seen by school authorities.
While he strongly disapproved of such behavior, Poku emphasized that punishment alone is not the solution. Instead, he advocates for a more holistic approach that includes counseling and guidance to help students understand the implications of their actions.
According to Mr. Poku, the students who are engaging in indecent dressing and other forms of misbehavior are the same individuals who will one day take up leadership positions in the country.
As such, it’s crucial that they are guided towards positive development. “Punishment is not the only way to bring up a good child,” he said.
“Counseling and advising also play a critical role in shaping their behavior and helping them become responsible citizens.”
Poku also urged parents to be more vigilant and take a more active role in monitoring their children’s behavior. “We are living in a computer age where children know more than their parents,” he said.
“Parents must critically keep an eye on their children and ensure they are not engaging in behavior that could compromise their values and principles.”
The Suame Municipal Education Directorate has taken steps to address the issue by introducing a guidance and counseling program in schools. Additionally, a new initiative called “Safe School” has been launched to promote peace and stability in schools, creating a conducive environment for learning. By providing guidance and support, the initiative seeks to address the root causes of misbehavior and help students develop positive attitudes and behaviors.
