The Municipal Chief Executive for Suhum, Margeret Darko on Wednesday blasted and lividly ordered the Municipal engineer to open the newly constructed three unit’s classroom block at Akote Basic School for the first batch of Junior High School students to occupy.
The newly constructed classroom block for Akote Junior High School remained closed waiting handing over while students were learning outside.
The classroom block constructed by Kakem Construction limited was completed in December 2020 to provide Junior high school for students in the area preventing them from walking long distances to other communities to continue their Junior high school education.
The contractor immediately handed over the keys to the Municipal engineer however the Engineer failed to present the keys to the MCE and the Education Director.
This compelled the first batch of Junior High School students supposed to occupy the facility to learn under the corridor.
The students carried their benches and plastic chairs from home to school to sit outside the classroom to learn.
The head teacher said the keys of the classroom block were yet to be handed over to the school.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Suhum Margaret Darko upon hearing the mishap ordered the immediate opening of the classroom block for the students to occupy.
She said she was unaware of the situation.
“This is unfortunate, why should you keep the keys in your room while the students learning outside. i have ordered the engineer to go to the school and open the classroom within the next 15 minutes. I am not going to tolerate this. We have constructed many classroom blocks that are in use even though we have not commissioned them. It is because of the children we constructed so they should use it whether commissioned or not “She told mybrytfmonline.com
