The Municipal Chief Executive for Suhum Margaret Darko has been accused of preventing the Municipal Education Director from distributing to the BECE candidates, Mathematics sets donated by the Parliamentary Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress in Suhum Constituency.
A statement issued September 17, 2020, and signed by the Constituency Communication Director Daniel Channor stated that “as a political party that respects our State institutions, our Parliamentary Candidate (Hon Amanda Okyere) presented the Mathematical Sets to the Director of Education in the Municipality so that they will distribute it to the final year’s students. To our surprise, the Municipal Chief Executive (Hon. Margaret Darko) had ordered the Director of Education not to distribute the Mathematical Sets for reasons best known to her. To put the icing on the cake, the Municipal Chief Executive and the NPP Parliamentary Candidates are now sharing branded (NPP colors) inferior mathematical sets to a selected student’s in Suhum leaving the majority of the students in the villages and nearby town to the detriment of their fate”.
The Suhum NDC Party says it has given the Municipal Director of Education six hours to release the Mathematical sets to the Candidates.
“With this release, we have given the Municipal Director of Education a maximum of 6 hours to release the Mathematical Sets and share it to the deprived students or return it to the NDC office so that we share it with the students. If they don’t care about the future of the BECE Candidates, we as a responsible party do care a lot. We are also calling on all the Stakeholders, Chiefs, Pastors, and Elders in Suhum Municipality to call the MCE to order. Hoarding or stealing Mathematical Sets is not the job that she was appointed to do for the Municipality. There are so many challenges facing the Municipality. The MCE should focus her attention and time in tackling those challenges rather than indulging in unnecessary and unfruitful party politics like hoarding or stealing common Mathematical Sets donated by responsible citizens in the Municipality”
“Every child is your child. We don’t have NDC children; neither do we have NPP children. It is by this conviction that our caring mother and Parliamentary Candidate, Hon Amanda Okyere took it upon herself to distribute Mathematical Sets to our BECE candidates across the Municipality”
Ironically, the Suhum MCE and the Parliamentary Candidate for the ruling NPP Oboafo Kwadwo Asante on Monday distributed NPP branded Maths sets to the BECE candidates.
