The Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency, Hon. Oboafo Kwadjo Asante, has initiated a peace process to restore calm between the communities of Omenako and Obretema following violent clashes over the weekend.
The violent altercation, which began after a soccer gala in the Omenako electoral area, resulted in multiple knife injuries and required police intervention to restore order.
Respite police intervention, the violence escalated creating horrible melee in the area.
Hon.Boafo Asante visited both communities separately to gather firsthand information and seek a lasting peaceful coexistence between the two groups.
During his visit, he expressed satisfaction with the willingness of both communities to reconcile and “smoke the peace pipe.”
The youth of Omenako and Obretema pledged to support the MP’s initiative for a peaceful resolution.
Local chiefs and elders also played a crucial role, having already called their communities to order and contributing to the relative calm observed.
Victims of the clashes, who sustained various degrees of knife wounds, were referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.
