The Suhum Circuit Court in the Eastern Region has convicted a final year student of Suhum Presbyterian Senior High School (Presec), Abdulai Fuseni, 21, to two (2) years in prison for threatening to kill a teacher in the school.
The convict pleaded guilty to a charge of the threat of death contrary to the criminal offense act and was convicted on his plea.
The complainant Foster Odei Ansong is a teacher in Suhum PRESEC.
In June 2021, the complainant rebuked the student for absenteeism.
The convicted student popular known as “Junior Sticker” was furious about the action of the teacher, therefore, went home to record a video threatening to behead the teacher
“Heerh, tell Foster (the teacher) that Monday I will come to school, I learned he is looking for me. Why? Have I stolen anything or what?, me Junior Sticker, by you have seen the machete I will slash his throat like how they slash the idols. Forking guy, I don’t know whether he is 39 or 40” the student said in a local dialect while holding the machete with topless as he displayed the action in the video”
The Teacher lodged a formal complaint at the Suhum Police station which the student was arrested while in-class learning.
He was processed and put before the Suhum Circuit Court where he was found guilty and convicted to two years imprisonment.
Suhum Police Commander Chief Superintendent Joseph Owusu confirmed the arrest and prosecution of the student but refused to give details when approached.
The Public Relations Officer of Suhum Municipal Directorate of Ghana Education Service (GES) Benjamin Kudjo said the GES is aware of the arrest of the student two weeks ago but has not officially been updated on the court proceedings.
According to the criminal offense act of Ghana, a person who threatens any other person with death, with intent to put that person in fear of death, commits a second-degree felony.
