Former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, has called on delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rally behind candidates who emerge victorious in the party’s ongoing parliamentary primaries, stressing that unity remains the party’s strongest weapon against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking during an interview during the NPP primaries, Atta Akyea urged party members whose preferred candidates did not win to put aside personal disappointments and support the winners for the greater good of the party.
According to him, the true test of loyalty to the NPP is the ability to unite after internal contests and work collectively toward winning national elections.
“If your candidate didn’t win, you need to support the one who did so that, in unity of purpose, we can face the NDC as one. That should be the aim of anyone who truly considers themselves an authentic NPP person,” he stated.
He cautioned against celebrating internal divisions, warning that such attitudes weaken the party and hand advantage to its political opponents.
“You cannot claim to be NPP and yet enjoy the disunity and setbacks of the party,” he said, adding that personal grievances, harsh words, and campaign related insults must be set aside once the primaries are concluded.
He emphasized that the NPP’s focus should now shift outward, noting that the real political battle lies ahead.
“Whatever the pain is, whatever was said that you were unhappy with, whatever the level of insults what remains now? Your enemy is not the NPP; your adversary is the NDC,” he stressed.
