Police in the Eastern Region have intercepted a commercial vehicle suspected of transporting stolen building materials from Ghana Senior High School, GHANASS, in Koforidua.
The incident happened Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Nkurakan Police barrier. Officers on duty – Inspector Daniel Akuvie ,Inspector Sharon Annan, Coporal Solomon Kudoahor ,Corporal Evans Adjei and Constable Inkoom Michael
became suspicious when a vehicle with registration number GT 4730-16 attempted to use an unusual route after loading items from the school.
The building materials—including toilet seats, tiles, plywood, and galvanized wire mesh—were hidden under seats, in the boot, and on the roof of the vehicle.
When questioned, the driver and a passenger claiming to be a foreman gave inconsistent answers and failed to produce a waybill.
Tensions rose when an unidentified caller phoned the officers, allegedly warning them to release the vehicle, claiming the Inspector-General of Police was his “father.” The threat, however, made the officers more suspicious.
The vehicle was escorted to the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters, where it was impounded and the driver arrested to assist investigations.
The Headmistress of GHANASS reportedly told police that the items were being moved to the Oti Region at the instruction of the contractor.

The contractor later corroborated but failed to appear in person, citing a meeting.
This is not the first time the school has been linked to theft cases. In 2018, a senior matron and a GES driver were fined ₵17,600 by the Koforidua Circuit Court for stealing food items meant for students.
Investigations are ongoing, as police determine whether the latest incident is another case of diversion of government project resources.
