Alhaji Massawudu Osman, the 3rd Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has condemned what he describes as politically motivated intimidation tactics by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and national security agencies, following a failed attempt by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to arrest Hon. Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem in the wake of the incident, Alhaji Osman claimed the NIB’s actions were part of a broader scheme orchestrated by the NDC to silence outspoken opposition voices. According to him, the attempted arrest stemmed from Fordjour’s recent allegations linking the current government to drug trafficking operations.
“The NPP is launching ‘Operation Catch One, Catch All’ to ensure no member of our party is unlawfully targeted or intimidated,” Osman declared. “We resisted the NIB because their actions lacked legal basis. There was no arrest warrant, no invitation — nothing to justify storming the home of a sitting Member of Parliament.”
Alhaji Osman emphasized that while the NPP respects the rule of law and accountability, due process must be followed, especially in the case of public officials. “We will not sit by as the NDC uses state institutions to harass and attempt to break the Minority Caucus,” he stated. “Parliamentary protocols must be respected.”
The Vice Chairman further alleged that the ruling NDC had a history of political violence, warning that the party would not allow history to repeat itself. “The NDC has a record, and we will not permit any attempt to harm our leaders,” he added.
This latest statement from the NPP’s leadership intensifies the political standoff following the Minority Caucus’ memorandum to the Speaker of Parliament earlier this week, which also protested the NIB’s actions. The incident has sparked wider debate over the balance between national security and parliamentary privileges.
