The newly appointed Bono Regional Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Director, Mustapha Omar Copson, has pledged to “think outside the box” to create jobs and tackle youth unemployment
He officially assumed his responsibilities on Monday, following his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama.
Until his appointment, Copson served as the deputy regional youth organizer for the National Democratic Congress.
He replaces Mr. Shadrach Abrefa Mensah, a former Deputy Bono regional organizer of the New Patriotic Party.
On Monday, 24th February, about 30 NDC constituency youth organizers, district YEA directors from the region and some TEIN coordinators joined the newly appointed YEA Director on his first day in office to congratulate him and pledge their full support for his new role.
A short introduction and welcome service were held at the regional office in Sunyani to usher him into the directorate.
Addressing the staff and his supporters, Mr. Mustapha Omar Copson revealed that 300 CVs had been received, accompanied by congratulatory messages, in search of employment barely a month after his appointment as the Bono Regional YEA director.
However, in an interview with Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-basedArkfm, the YEA Director Mustapha Omar Copson emphasized his commitment to creating jobs and empowering youth.
He plans to tap into CVs to identify capabilities and potentials in both formal and informal sectors, seeking international aid, including the Mastercard Foundation, to invest in youth potential in the Bono Region.
According to Copson, creating jobs for youth is crucial for economic growth and broadening the tax net, as employed youth will contribute to the country’s tax revenue.
He prioritized ensuring seriousness, unity, and professionalism among staff, pledging not to tolerate indiscipline or politics at work, stressing that he couldn’t afford to jeopardise his political career with his new appointment.
Copson hinted at working with all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliations, reflecting the president’s inclusive governance approach.
Earlier, the former Bono regional YEA director Shadrak Abrefa Mensah urged his successor to maintain unity in the office and avoid political interference.
