Education minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum was a panel member of the Africa Human Capital Heads of State Summit at Dar es Salaam in Tanzania where he shared some of the policies and interventions being implemented by the Government of Ghana in the education sector.
The minister outlined the President’s determination to revamp the education sector to serve its useful purpose of transforming the country’s economy with several initiatives.
He also informed the Summit about the significant improvement in enrolment from 800,000 to 1.4 million as a result of removing the cost barrier which limited the poor from accessing formal education beyond the Junior High School level.
He further explained how teachers who are the center of the educational enterprise have adequately been equipped with the right resources to ensure the transformational program of the educational system becomes a reality.
Dr Osei Adutwum concluded by highlighting the efforts being made to change the classroom environment where students’ ideas and views are cherished in the teaching and learning process which eventually develops students to become critical thinkers.
