Techiman traditional council in the Bono East regional capital led by Omanhene Oseadeyor Akumfi Ameyaw IV has banned activities of tricycles (Pragya) from operating anywhere in the municipality beyond 10 pm.
Explaining the rationale behind the decision, Mr Eghan Evans, Registrar for the Techiman Traditional Council in an interview with the media revealed it is part of measures to curb the rampant passenger attacks at night as well as the increasing robbery of the vehicles (Pragya).
He said, the resolution was made at a meeting with the Techiman Police Command, Municipal Assembly, Executives of the Pragya Association and all key stakeholders and therefore, non-compliance with the above directive effective Monday 7th February 2022 will have serious consequences.
Mr Eghan Evans reiterated that the earlier directive by the traditional council restricting Pragya from operating on the highways or major streets of the Techiman township is still in force but said after extensive consultations, they have eased the restriction on the Sunyani road due to heavy traffic congestion, especially during market days.
Meanwhile, some Pragia riders and passengers in Techiman who spoke in an interview expressed mixed reactions to the traditional council’s directives.
