Ghana, like many developing countries, faces several challenges in its quest for economic and social development. Among these challenges is the issue of unemployment, especially among the youth.
However, there is a solution that has been proven to work in many countries, and it is technical education.
Technical education equips individuals with the skills and knowledge to be self-employed or readily employable, making them valuable contributors to the country’s economy.
In this article, we will explore the case of Dabokpaa Technical School in the Tamale Metropolis, where students are not just learning technical skills but using them to build and develop their school and community. It is evident that technical education is a panacea for Ghana’s development, and it is time for all stakeholders to support and promote it.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Dabokpaa Technical School located in the Tamale Metropolis and I must say, I was blown away by what I witnessed.
The students of this technical school are not only learning important skills, but they are also actively applying those skills to benefit their school and community.
During my visit, I saw students painting the school, manufacturing desks for their classrooms, building parts of the school, and even creating a tricycle motorcycle.
It was evident that these students are not just learning theoretical knowledge, but they are also gaining practical skills that they can use in their future careers.
These youth when they complete school will not have to go looking for white collar jobs but will use their skills for self employment.
This experience led me to believe that technical education is truly a panacea for Ghana’s development.
The case of Dabokpaa Technical School is a perfect example of how technical education can contribute to the development of our nation.
It is time for our government and the Metropolitan Assembly to prioritize technical education and invest in the infrastructure and resources needed to support these schools.
We must also encourage parents to send their children to technical schools and JHS students to consider technical education as a viable option for their future.
By investing in technical education, we can reduce the unemployment rate in our country and provide opportunities for self-employment.
We can also ease the burden on our government to provide employment for our youth and instead utilize our resources for national development.
I call upon all stakeholders in Ghana to support technical education and recognize its importance in the development of our country. Let us work together to create a bright future for our youth in Ghana as a whole.
In conclusion, technical education is the key to unlocking our nation’s potential. Let us prioritize this education system and provide our youth with the tools they need to succeed.
I urge everyone to take action and support technical education in any way possible.
