The Accra-Tema Motorway, according to the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), no longer satisfies the criteria for a motorway.
Henry Asomani, senior manager of the Authority’s planning and program directorate, made this statement during a Monday on Acrra based radio station.
He clarified that by definition, a motorway must be a controlled-access road intended for high-speed travel and devoid of passage for pedestrians, cyclists, or other non-motorized modes of transportation.
He made this remark in reaction to the JoyNews program “The Deadly Roadway,” which recently highlighted the hazardous conditions and high rate of traffic accidents on the highway.
Following the government’s failure to keep its pledges to make the route safe, many Ghanaians have grown concerned about the terrible condition of the roadway.
According to Mr. Asomani, the National Road Safety Authority acknowledges the need for better road infrastructure and is collaborating with pertinent parties to make sure the appropriate actions are made to increase road safety
