Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu, the newly elected Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Tamale Central, has submitted his nomination form to the EC to contest the race to fill the Tamale Central parliamentary seat.
The seat became vacant following the demise of the MP, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has scheduled Tuesday, September 30, 2025 for the By-Election as closing date for filing Nomination ends on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
Professor Seidu,won during the party’s internal election held on Saturday, September 6, at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
Out of 1,511 total votes cast, he secured 840, leaving his closest rival, Abdul Hannan Gundado, trailing with 536 votes. The outcome reflected strong grassroots support and positioned Prof. Seidu as the frontrunner heading into the by-election.
On the other hand, the Tamale Metro Electoral Commission Director, Anaba Samson, disclosed that four other individuals representing the All People’s Congress (APC), Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), People’s National Convention (PNC), and one Independent candidate had collected nomination forms.
However, by the close of submissions on Wednesday, September 10, none had formally filed their paperwork to confirm their candidacy.
