There is growing tension in Akwapim Abotakyi in the Akwapim South Municipality of the Eastern Region as kingmakers’ object to the installation of Simb Emile Parfait from Cameroon as Nkosuohene (Development Chief).
According to the kingmakers, due process was not followed in the installation of Simb Emile Parfait.
According to documents cited by Koforidua based Bryt FM, the Akuapem Traditional area placed a perpetual injunction on the coronation and enstoolment Simb Emile Parfait, but Nana Kwame Sakyi Ababio II, the chief of Abotakyi defiled the orders and went ahead to do the said event.
According to the documents, the petitioners, who happen to be the kingmakers and elders of the town does not know the second respondent (Simb Emile Parfait) but invitation cards were circulating within the Abotakyi Township for the installation of the said person as Nkosuohene of Abotakyi which it shouldn’t be so.
In the normal sense, the petitioners have various roles to play in the nomination, selection, appointment, enstooling, and installation of Nkosuohene of Abotakyi under the customs and practices. This will help the petitioners (Kingmakers) conduct due diligence for a qualifying person to be nominated as the Nkosuohene and when satisfied, approve and recommend the nomination, then install as the Nkosuohene.
Under the customs of Abotakyi, the First Respondent that’s Abotakyihene cannot solely nominate, select, appoint, install Simb Emile Parfait as Nkosuohene.
Speaking to Nana Akosua Sakyibea I, Queen mother of Abotakyi, she said, it is worrisome and jaw-dropping to see Abotakyihene making procession in Akuapem-Abotakyi on Saturday, 17th 2021 in defiance of the Akuapem traditional areas perpetual injunction.
According to her, Nana Kwame Sakyi Ababio II unilateral takes a decision and sells family lands without the notice and consent of the royal family. She said, he sometimes insults the kingmakers and the elders publicly.
The unhappy youth groups of the town expressed their dissatisfaction with the enstoolment of a foreigner as chief in their area. Stating that, the said person has not done anything that merits his position, besides, they don’t know him. The group criticized Nana Kwame Sakyi Ababio II as they felt very unhappy with his unilateral decision.
Nana Akosua Sakyibea I, Queen mother of Abotakyi has therefore appealed to residents to remain calm and ignore what he says is the hurried installation of Simb Emile Parfait as Nkosuohene.
This portal called Nana Kwame Sakyi Ababio II on phone; he said the injunction was from the camp of Nana Akosua Sakyibea, Nana Kwaku Sakyi (Gyasehene), Ohene Kofi Glover (Acting Baamuhene).
According to him, the queen mother’s lawyer prepared the said injunction and not Akuapem Traditional area.
He said, he is a member of the traditional council and nothing of that sort has come to their office, hence the interlocutory injunction is not valid, so that’s why he went ahead to install the Simb Emile Parfait as Nkosuohene.
He added that he doesn’t need his elders and kingmakers before he can install Nkosuohene, he said he is the only one who can appoint and install Nkosuohene.
