The Koforidua Area of The Church of Pentecost, led by the Area Head – Apostle Samuel Osei Asante- has begun massive public education on sanitation and Hygiene as Part of weeklong activities for Phase II of the Church’s nationwide Environmental Care Campaign on the theme “My Environment; My Responsibility”.
Pastors, Elders and Members of the Church in each District are creating awareness in communities, Schools, Clinics, markets, lorry stations, Churches, Mosques and on Radio, on the need to collectively help improve on sanitation in the country.
Some of the activities outlined in the weeklong program – February 24th to 29th, 2020 include massive Clean -up Exercises, Community Durbar on environmental Cleanliness, education on Sanitation bye-laws, stakeholder’s forum, and adoption of a community to become a model of environmental care and quintessence of the cleanest community.
The Church of Pentecost, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility to help Ghana deal with the menace of Poor Sanitation, which impacts the economy with $290 million annual loses instituted the Environmental Care Campaign as one of the community impact initiatives, captured in the five-year vision policy statement of the Church dubbed Vision 2023 under the leadership of Apostle Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of the Church.
The implementation of the environmental Project commenced in 2019 in partnership with waste management giant-Zoomlion. Also encapsulated in the project are campaign for attitudinal change on bad sanitation and hygiene practices, help curb human activities that negatively impact the environment, provision of waste bins and tree planting.
According to the leadership of the Church, it observed after the implementation of the first phase of the project, the difficulty in acquiring waste bins from the District Assemblies.
Irregular collection of waste by some waste management firms and the penchant of littering the environment by many Ghanaians are some of the major Challenges that threatened the success of the exercise hence the new strategic approach adopted for the second phase of the project.
The Resident Minister of Pentecost International Worship Center |PIWC| – Koforidua, Pastor Musa Yahaya invited the public to a stakeholder’s forum to be held Thursday, February 26, 2020, at the Church premises, and a community Clean Up Exercise at Nsukwao.
On his part, the Okorase District Pastor, Pastor Paul Laryea, was hopeful the exercise will achieve its target in his area of jurisdiction.
He said members of the Church as part of Bible study, have been educated and conscientious on good sanitation and hygiene practices to serve as agents of change in their communities.
