The constitution of Ghana is explicit on the vetting of presidential nominees by the appointments committee of parliament as one of the oversight duties of the house to put the executive in order.
At the appointment committee, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini queried Hon Gifty Twum Ampofo on the alleged bribing of delegates with TV sets and 1,500 that was reported by corruption watch Ghana. One was expecting the MP to be tactful with her answer. Her response, was very unfortunate incriminating herself to the charges leveled against her, and in any serious jurisdiction, the appointing authority would have redrawn her nomination.
Her answers to Alhassan Suhuyini were very snobbish as usual. Forgetting Suhuyini was setting a trap for her. She fell flat into the trap and every political person knew she was heading towards a ditch with the kind of scornful answers she was giving. She had a clean slate compared to Hawa Koomson, Ursula Owusu, and Ken Ofori Atta among others who even got unanimous assent from the committee at the backdrop of their numerous charges. So one will ask why, Hon. Gifty Twum?? What brought the division between the two sides on her approval?
Her tantrums at the committee have cost her. Her alleged post vetting comments in the house of parliament have also cost her dearly. In as much as we all know she will be given the approval, first-time rejection from the committee is a disgrace to her nomination, the constituency, and the president who entrusted her to that position. She should go and watch the video, reflect, and have a change in her public speech especially when pushed to the wall.
A tongue-speaking person should learn to season her words with salt. Should be tolerant and accommodative. Should know the forum to throw shades and when to act friendly or vile.
