The grand vision of the “Year of Roads” introduced with much fanfare by the Akuffo Addo/Bawumia led government appears to be facing significant challenges, reflecting the broader national trend.
Upper Manya Krobo, in the Eastern Region, is no exception to this prevailing issue, with promises of road improvements giving way to a disheartening reality.
What was initially hailed as a promising initiative now seems more rhetorical than real when it comes to actual implementation, leaving many communities in the Upper Manya Krobo constituency in dire need of road rehabilitation.
Feeder roads leading to the district capital bear witness to this frustration, as there is no sign of any rehabilitation efforts from the central government.
Sources close to this issue reveal that the Regional Department of Feeder Roads provided a grader to the District Assembly for road rehabilitation purposes. However, it seems that these resources are being held back for reasons beyond just the infrastructural need of the region.
Whispers among the locals suggest that there might be a political twist to the delay. It’s rumored that the road rehabilitation in the district is being intentionally postponed until the NPP Parliamentary candidate for the Upper Manya Krobo constituency launches his campaign for the 2024 general election.
The Member of Parliament for the Upper Manya Krobo constituency,Hon. Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, was recently trapped on one of the deplorable roads – Brepor-Kokoney-Ayesu road.
At one point, the MP was compelled to halt his journey as the road became impassable, swallowed by the unforgiving mud.
” Why must a government wait until its Parliamentary candidate starts a campaign to alleviate the suffering of the electorate? ” A weary passenger, who had to disembark from a stranded bus, posed this inquiry, encapsulating the collective frustration of the people in the Upper Manya Krobo constituency
The MP graded many roads in the Constituency before the onset of the road but the rains have worsened most of the roads in other communities making it impassable.
