President Nana Akufo-Addo has said he is optimistic that there will be no issues on December 7th as Ghanaians are heading to Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
He said Voting is about making a personal choice and not violence and was happy for peaceful polls in the Special Voting on 1st December.
A total of 109,577 persons were on the special voting roll, most of whom cast their ballots on December 1 for their preferred presidential and parliamentary candidates across the country.
President Akufo-Addo believes only persons without a message will make attempts at violence on Election Day.
All the political parties have agreed to a proposal by the Electoral Commission (EC) to the Chief of Staff of Ghana to make Monday, December 7, 2020, a statutory holiday.
The consensus according to the EC was agreed upon at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.
The EC in a statement explained that its proposal sought to “allow registered voters to devote the day to exercise their civic right and responsibility to vote during the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.”
The election management body also revealed that “there was also a consensus by the political parties and the Commission that registered voters should be encouraged to cast their ballots early on Election Day.”
Present at the meeting were representatives of all the political parties, Civil Society Organization’s (CSOs), and development partners.
