Baba Jamal, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, has rejected widely shared pictures on social media that seem to show him dozing off soon after his swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
The MP emphasized that the photos are altered and do not accurately depict what took place during parliamentary proceedings in an interview with Okay FM in Accra.
“There are several of the photos going around. Even one of them had me with my mouth wide open. These are AI-generated photos,” he explained.
Baba Jamal claimed that the photographs’ dissemination is a part of some people’s attempts to undermine him after what he called a pivotal point in his political career.
“People would always want to dent every beautiful thing when it happens,” he added.
The photographs went viral on social media shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, drawing conflicting reactions from users.
Baba Jamal, who previously served as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, was declared the winner of the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat on March 3, 2026, with 10,884 votes, defeating the NPP’s Yussif Ali Baba, who received 4,009 votes.
