Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, in her acceptance speech as running mate to NDC flag bearer John Mahama, on Wednesday in Accra, called for a unified effort to rebuild Ghana. Addressing the country’s current challenges, she urged citizens to come together and engage in the hard work required to revitalize the nation.
“Things have gravely deteriorated. It is high time we came together to do the hard work, to build, again, regardless how daunting. All is not lost. Our beloved country can rise again; Ghana will rise again and this time, not to slack,” Opoku Agyemang stated.
Emphasizing the role of politics in promoting positive change, she said, “Politics is about fighting injustice, hunger, hopelessness, arrogance, selfishness, unbridled greed, corruption, state capture, disrespect of fellow human beings.”
Prof. Jaane Naana Opoku Agyemang who is a First Vice Chancellor of University of Cape Coast and a former Minister of Education ,also underscored the importance of using power in the service of those who grant it.
“We need the armor of principles, selflessness, of compassion, of truth, of sacrifice, all these rooted firmly in using power in the service of those who give it to us,” she remarked.
She called for a transformed Ghana “where equality thrives; where equity is paramount; where merit counts; where opportunity is not a privilege, where justice is just; and where our sons and daughters can aspire to any height without the fetters of bias or limitation.”
In her concluding remarks, Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang extended an invitation to all citizens, particularly the youth and marginalized groups, to partner with the NDC in shaping a future of limitless prospects.
“Come, I open my arms to welcome each one of you to partner with the NDC to envision and craft and roll out a future of limitless prospects,” she said.
