Former Bantama Member of Parliament Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu has urged Ghanaians and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to support the elimination of ex-gratia, or end-of-service benefits, for members of the 8th Parliament, which includes depriving them of their salaries for the remaining months of this year.
Hon. Kokofu, a former chief executive of the Environmental Protection Agency, told reporters at an NPP campaign event in the Western North Region’s Aowin constituency that his call is based on the wrongdoing of members of Parliament, especially those on the minority side, who have chosen to interfere with government operations, causing the country to regress.
He bemoaned the recent issue caused by Speaker Alban Bagbin, which led to the suspension of legislative sessions indefinitely.
“I am sure the NDC minority is happy with this situation because, in their view, when government business continues and approvals are secured, it will benefit the Ghanaian people…Currently, the government has secured a $250 million loan aimed at enhancing the lives of Ghanaians through infrastructure projects, including the construction of roads and hospitals, as well as strengthening our security agencies. However, these efforts remain stalled as Parliament is not in session”, he stated.
In order to prevent a situation in which the NDC continues to impede Ghana’s progress by political scheming, Dr. Kokofu further asked Ghanaians to vote for the NPP and all of its parliamentary candidates.
He underlined that in order to protect the country’s progress and make sure that partisan politics does not obstruct development initiatives, the NPP must have a significant presence in Parliament.
