Hon. Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, a former member of parliament for Sefwi Akontombra, has bared his teeth at government as he believes the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are giving too many excuses after John Mahama was sworn in as president.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem, Hon. Tetteh Djornobuah frowned at the recent excuses hovering around that the NDC keeps apportioning on the past government, making them look bad in the eyes of Ghanaians.
“Governance is a continuous process,” Hon. Tetteh stated. “Once you are voted into power, whatever debt or money you come to meet becomes your responsibility. There’s no room for excuses.”
Touching on Hon. Opoku’s comments on the country owing Ecowas 27,000 tons of maize and rice in 2018, he challenged the minister to provide documentary proof to back up the accusation.
“If Eric Opoku is sincere in his statements, he should support them with evidence. Clearly, the Buffer Stock Company is not the same as the Ministry of Agriculture. The deal with ECOWAS was signed by Buffer Stock, not the Agric Ministry.
He clarified that while Ghana was supposed to return the wheat in 2019, the COVID-19 outbreak caused the government to fall behind on the deal.
Tetteh’s remarks coincide with the escalating discussion on Ghana’s agricultural obligations and the management of food supplies per international accords. His comments highlight the conflicts between the current and former administrations as they level accusations about governance, debt, and accountability.
