The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Awatey, has affirmed that the entire nation is mourning the loss of the helicopter crash victims, which took place in August in Adansi Akrufuom in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking in an interview with Nana Yaw Obeng on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show, the regional minister stated that the recent national tragedy that claimed the lives of several prominent individuals was a sad moment for Ghanaians.
Hon. Rita Awatey stated that the incident was a difficult time for the entire country.
Hon. Rita Awatey revealed that the government has planned an official burial for the victims on Friday. However, two of the deceased, who were Muslims, have already been buried in accordance with Islamic customs.
“The remaining victims will be buried on Friday, which has been declared the official burial day,” she added.
“We held a short ceremony yesterday at Jackson Park in Koforidua to commemorate the one-week passing. A candlelight procession was also held at the party office to honor their memory,” Hon. Rita Awatey explained.
The government has outlined arrangements for the state funeral of the victims of the August 6 helicopter crash. The ceremony, set for Friday, August 15, 2025, will be a full military service conducted by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The Deputy Chief of Staff, Stan Dogbe, said the funeral will be held in three parts—beginning with Bible and Qur’an recitals, followed by the main service, and ending with the burial.
