Social commentator Bernard Allotey Jacobs has added his voice to the discussion surrounding the theft of millions of dollars’ worth of foreign currency as well as other goods from the residence of former sanitation minister Cecilia Dapaah.
Two housekeepers and other people are on trial for allegedly stealing millions of cedis, €300,000, and $1 million from the former sanitation minister’s Ablekuma home.
Following the alleged crimes between July and October 2022, Patience Botwe (18) and Sarah Agyei (30) were previously charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of theft.
The former Minister’s home in the Abelemkpe neighborhood of Accra is where a number of valuables, including a variety of garments worth GHC95,000, purses, perfumes, and jewels totaling $95,000, are said to have been stolen at this time. In addition, Patience Botwe was charged with stealing six sets of men’s clothing worth $3,000 and six pieces of kente cloth costing GHC 90,000. Both items belonged to Ms. Dapaah’s husband. In addition, three other people—Botwe’s father, her boyfriends, both present and former—are accused of participating in dishonestly collecting GHC1 million, GHC180,000, and GHC50,000, respectively.
Allotey Jacobs asserts that Cecilia Dapaah is to blame, claiming that the money would not have been stolen if she had brought it to the bank.
Allotey Jacobs voiced his disappointment during a panel discussion on Peace FM’s morning program “Kokrokoo” about how the former Minister had given the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) more tools to use against the current administration as the nation gets closer to the 2024 elections.
” I won’t be nice to her; this is collateral damage to the NPP…because of what happened in 2015/2016; ‘Woyome Woyome’. The opposition has picked it up and playing the same music back to you (NPP). The husband should have been the sole complainer. You know what is happening in this country where the opposition has vowed to use every propaganda means to win the election, you’ve (Cecilia) given them the knife to stab your party in the back,” he fired.
