Ashantigold defender, Eric Donkor has entreated the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to rebrand football in the country after cancelling the season.
The Ghana FA’s executive council on Tuesday, June 30 decided to annul the season which had been suspended since March 16 due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The decision is deemed as devastating for a football industry that was about finding its feet after close to 2 years on non-competitive action due to a period of normalization after the Anas Exposé.
Donkor who had stint with Kotoko before joining the Obuasi based club in an interview with Bryt FM shared that he has no problem with the truncation of the season, but has, encouraged the nation’s football governing body to restructure Ghana football to attract sponsors for the domestic league.
“Ghana football has been on and off for the past three years but I’m sure this is the time for the GFA to rebrand our game. Now they have the opportunity to do everything possible for the game having truncated the league”
“I’m sure the leadership of the FA is doing their best to get sponsors and rebrand Ghana Football from juvenile to the league proper. Recently our national teams do not perform at tournaments”
“Frankly speaking, Ghana football is declining and I’m sure it will get back stronger if they take a critical look on the game” he concluded.
