All three aspirants vying for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary ticket in the Akwatia constituency have successfully filed their nomination forms ahead of the party’s internal primaries.

The aspirants—former Member of Parliament Henry Yiadom Boakye (also known as Okoyo), legal practitioner Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq., and Erasmus Koney Ali (also known as Asanka)—submitted their forms on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Eastern Regional Secretariat of the party.
In an interview with journalists, Henry Yiadom Boakye stated that he is seeking a second term to enable him to complete developmental projects and social programs he initiated during his first tenure.
When asked about the participation of Bernard Bediako Baidoo Esq., who served as his legal counsel in the election petition case against the now-deceased MP, he responded, “That is the beauty of democracy.”
Ashmeiu Gbenga, Special Assistant to Erasmus Koney Ali populay known as Asanka, said his boss is the most suitable candidate to reclaim the seat for the NDC.
He cited numerous community development initiatives carried out as part of his corporate social responsibility as a miner.
Vetting of the aspirants is scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 31, 2025, in Koforidua.
The NDC parliamentary primary is slated for Sunday, August 4, ahead of the by-election scheduled for September 2.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission will open nominations for the by-election from August 5 to August 7.
