Three Fulani herdsmen have been arrested in a major crackdown by the Abuakwa North Municipal Security Council as tension rises between farmers and the nomadic herdsmen over destruction of their farmlands.
The cattle of the herdsmen reportedly destroy crops of farmers while the herdsmen threatens the farmers who attempt to protest.
The cattle also pollute river bodies that the communities drink from and use for domestic activities.
The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Nana Kwame Addo Frimpong Ampaw raised the matter on the floor of parliament calling for urgent security intervention to curb the menace , de-escalate the tension and enhance food security.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Abuakwa North, Charles Darko accompanied by the Police Commander and his armed Police personnel conducted an operation in Kukurantumi, Kyekyerew, and Bomponso, arresting three Fulani herdsmen and flushing away their cattle from the area.
The MCE has assured farmers that his office will continue to work with security agencies to address the issue and ensure that those responsible are brought to book.
