On the sidelines of TICAD-9, President John Dramani Mahama held bilateral talks with UN Secretary General António Guterres.
Their discussion focused on strengthening multilateral cooperation, accelerating progress on the SDGs, Ghana’s ongoing economic rebound, and the escalating security challenges in West Africa.
President Mahama welcomed the Secretary General’s recognition of Ghana’s leadership within ECOWAS and the African Union as we work with Ghana neighbours to address the Sahel-related crisis, and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to collective, regional solutions.
He reiterated Ghana’s unwavering support for multilateralism and the need to further democratise the UN to enhance its representativeness and effectiveness.
He also shared updates on Ghana’s recovery—our debt restructuring is advancing to secure long-term stability—and expressed appreciation to UNDP for its sustained partnership.
