Farmers cultivating tiger nuts in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District in the Central Region are urgently calling on the government for financial assistance and the establishment of a dedicated factory.
Mr. Samuel Aedan, spokesperson for the concerned farmers, has highlighted the challenges they face due to a reliance on manual labor for planting and harvesting.
According to Mr. Aedan, the introduction of machinery and financial investment, including fertilizers, would significantly boost tiger nut production, creating more jobs and alleviating unemployment in the community.
He pointed out that the current labor-intensive methods are not only burdensome for workers, particularly women, but also affect their personal lives due to the exhausting nature of the work.
In an interview with the media, several farmers expressed their frustration with inconsistent market conditions and called for government intervention to establish processing facilities.
They believe that such investments would enhance productivity and stabilize their livelihoods by ensuring fair prices through direct access to processing and distribution channels.
