Tipper Truck Drivers claiming to belong to National Tipper Drivers Association on Friday protested against unstable hikes in quarry materials produced by Chinese Quarry companies in Ghana particularly Kasoa area.
According to the Tipper Truck drivers who operate in Kasoa and its environs in the Central Region, the Chinese increase prices of gravels, quarry dust, building stones, and other materials they buy from them anyhow without being regulated.
Aside from this, the aggrieved drivers contend that the Chinese Quarry firms show gross disrespect to the Ghanaians Truck drivers whenever they go to buy from them.
“We are unable to afford buying from the Chinese who are mining stones and quarry dust in this country due to price hikes. The most annoying thing is that they chose when and how to give you materials. Sometimes they will delay you three to four hours. Meanwhile, we have gone for loans hence we are not able to pay the loans”.
“We are appealing to the Minerals Commission to intervene because the Chinese increase prices of the building materials anyhow. My problem is why the government has left the Chinese to do whatever they want in this country. Can’t their activities and pricing of materials be regulated like how cement prices are done.”
The drivers have served notice that starting Monday, September 21, they will lay down their tools while awaiting the government to address their concerns.
Speaking to Bryt News Correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah, the National Chairman for the Tipper Drivers Association, Abdul Kadril Innusah revealed that, the Chinese Stone Quarry Companies in the area are evading tax in their operations calling on the appropriate bodies to investigate them.
